This selector appeared with the Sound Manager version 3. It returns a mnemonic code that tells what native hardware is present:
• ‘asc ’ = Apple Sound Chip
• ‘awac’ = Audio Waveform Amplifier and Converter
• ‘awgc’ = (seen on PowerMac 7200/7500/8500/9500)
• ‘clas’ = Classics specific chip
• ‘dsp ’ = Digital Signal Processor
• ‘sing’ = (seen on PowerBook 520/540)
• ‘sng2’ = (seen on PowerBook 5300)
• ‘whit’ = (seen on Performa 5300)
